Atlético Madrid's Mario Suarez scored on the 27th minute to bring the tie back on level terms.

After 120 minutes of football, the match still couldn't be separated and it was down to penalty kicks

Stefan Kießling, Hakan Calhanoglu and Toprak all missed for Leverkusen as Atletico Madrid won 3-2 in the shootout.

It was a disappointing finish for Leverkusen, who were hoping to reach the last eight for the first time since reaching the final in 2002.

Raul Garcia missed the first penalty kick for the host before his mate Koke had his penalty saved.
