Blatter vows to leave 'strong' FIFA

Sepp Blatter has vowed to leave FIFA in a "strong" and "robust" state after
winning re-election for a fifth term as president on Friday.
Blatter retained his position as head of world football's governing body
after rival candidate Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein conceded defeat following
the first round of voting at the FIFA Congress in Zurich.
Neither candidate managed to achieve the required two-thirds majority for
victory in the opening ballot - Blatter receiving 133 votes to his
challenger's 73 - but Prince Ali stood down before the second round.
The election took place against a backdrop of controversy, following news
on Wednesday that nine FIFA officials, past and present, were among 14
people indicted on charges of racketeering, conspiracy and corruption by
United States authorities.
In his victory speech, Blatter, 79, acknowledged that he is not perfect, but
promised to restore the prestige of the organisation during the next four
years.
"I promise by the end of my term I will give this FIFA to my successor in a
very strong position. A strong FIFA, a robust FIFA," he said.

Blatter wins fifth FIFA term

Sepp Blatter has been re-elected as FIFA president for a fifth term.
Blatter defeated challenger Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein at the FIFA Congress
in Zurich on Friday, when the latter conceded defeat after the first round of
voting.
Blatter had missed out on the required two-thirds majority in the first
ballot - receiving 133 votes to his rival's 73 - but Prince Ali took to the
stage to withdraw before a second round could begin.
The result came at the end of a day that had been interrupted by a protest
and an anonymous security threat at the Hallenstadion.
The elections took place against a backdrop of controversy following the
news on Wednesday that nine past and present FIFA officials were among
14 people indicted on charges of racketeering, conspiracy and corruption
by United States authorities.
Many had called for the elections to be postponed in light of the
developments, while others – including UEFA president Michel Platini –
urged Blatter to step aside before the vote.
But the Swiss defiantly refused to heed those calls, saying in his opening
address to delegates that he would "shoulder the responsibility to fix
FIFA".
And he will now be given the mandate to carry forward that pledge, having
been voted back into football’s top job by a majority of the 209 member
associations.
However, Blatter appears likely to face a number of challenges in the early
days of his new term, with Platini having previously stated that the UEFA
member nations could boycott all FIFA competitions – including the World
Cup – should Blatter be re-elected.
FIFA vice-president David Gill, meanwhile, threatened to stand down
from the Executive Committee in the event of a Blatter victory.
The fall-out from the indictment of those implicated officials looks set to
rumble on, while a separate Swiss investigation into the awarding of the
2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar could yet cause further
headaches for Blatter and FIFA.
In his speech to delegates ahead of the vote, Blatter had insisted he was the
right man to bring about change within the game.
"I am being held accountable for the current storm," he said. "Okay, so be
it, I will shoulder that responsibility. I will take it upon myself. I will accept
this responsibility to fix FIFA together with you.
"I want to do it now, tomorrow and the day after and the weeks and
months to come."
Earlier in the day, an anonymous threat forced police to step in and search
the premises, with rumours of a bomb threat sparked while delegates were
on a lunch break.
Police were required to assess the venue following the receipt of the threat,
although clearance was subsequently given for the Congress to continue.
Addressing the situation, FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke said: "An
anonymous threat against the FIFA congress was received. FIFA and the
local authorities immediately evaluated the situation.
"In consultation with FIFA, the local authority decided to search the
premises during the lunch break."

Hearts host Olympique de Ngor of Senegal on Sunday

Accra Hearts Of Oak host Senegalese Olympique de Ngor in the Confederation Cup first leg of the first qualifying round at Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Hearts Of Oak, the 2004 champions have played Senegalese opponents eight times. They have won five, drawn two, and lost once.

Hearts beat AS Police of Benin 1-0 on aggregate about a fortnight ago in two-legged preliminary round.

Hearts of Oak manager, Herbert  Addo earlier on said he is not bothered by the possible threat of Senegalese Olympique de Ngor.

“For me personally, I do my own thing and if the players comply, I know we cannot go wrong,” Herbert Addo.

“The supporters are expecting a win and I hope they come and witness a different attitude."

“The supporters need to come to give the players an injection to help the team get the win.”

Kotoko and Hearts of Oak to be handed $30,000 by the GFA

Reigning Ghana Premier league champions, Asante Kotoko and last season's runner up, Accra Hearts Of Oak will be participating in the CAF Champions league and Confederations cup respectively.

Ghanaian clubs have been complaining of the huge financial burden associated with playing in the Africa club competitions and have called for financial bailout from the State.
Accra Hearts Of Oak in the beginning of the season wanted to boycott the competition due to lack of funds.

It is believed that the Ghana Football Association gave participating clubs similar donations last season.

“ We will be supporting the clubs in Africa this season,” Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of Ghana Football Association.

“ We will soon make a presentation to them – the amount I think is around $ 20,000 - 30,000.”

CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Asante kotoko ready for Algeria test

Africa club of the century and reigning Ghana Premier league champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko has had a shambolic start of their Premier league campaign with just 3 wins out of their many games.
The Porcupine Warriors are fourteenth in the current First Capital Plus Premier League.
Kotoko travel to Algeria tonight ahead of their crucial CAF champions league first leg tie against MC El Eulma.
Kotoko's record on Algerian soil has been abysmal. They travel to North Africa this time around with an even poorer run of form as they drew 1-1 at home with Medeama.

The problem with the 21-time Premier league winners seems to be a constant factor after the club ordered coach Didi Dramani who had a contract running with the club until the end of the season to proceed on leave indefinitely.
Asante Kotoko have had couple of draws after Didi Dramani's leave and are currently in the the relegation zone, they fall on the fourteenth spot of the table.
Didi Dramani led Kotoko to two Premier league titles, one FA Cup runners' up medal, one FA Cup and two Super Cups.

Kotoko have announced an official 28-man squad for their trip to Algeria ahead of their CAF Champions League first leg tie against MC El Eulma this weekend in Algeria.
The squad announced by assistant coach Michael Osei has 19 players in which are three goalkeepers, seven defenders, six midfielders and three strikers.
Soon to be announced coach David Duncan is reported to join the club in their trip to Algeria

Asante Kotoko has won three successive Premier league titles, 2011/12, 2012/13 and 2013/14.

The club's experienced defender Abeiku Ainooson says the club will surely bounce back and that he is very confident Kotoko's domestic form won't interfere with their Champions League campaign.

Ghana plays a 16th-club-league.

CONFIRMED: Members of the blackstars team rewarded massively!

CONFIRMED: Each member of the Black Stars playing body, technical staff and management team will be rewarded with a Jeep Grand Cherokee for placing second at the just ended AFCON in Equatorial Guinea. Just as the $ 25,000 cash gift, though unceremoniously
announced by the president of Ghana but his
government disassociated itself, the Jeep gift is no an exception. The Ghana Football Association and the Gov't of Ghana say a private company (Tanink Ghana) is making the donation to the Black Stars as sign of appreciation. The report say Tanink have been touched by the Black Stars sacrifice of risking their lives to play against Ebola stricken countries and making the dangerous trip to Equatorial Guinea. The gift is worth over $2 million. Meanwhile, concrete information available indicates that one of the Jeep cars was picked up by the Ministry of
Youth and Sports weeks ago and has been registered and being driven by the deputy
chief driver of the ministry. Though the donation has not been officially donè,
someone at the ministry has had his share but still, government says they know nothing about the reward.

5 key lessons from the Africa Cup Of Nations

Here are the 5 key lessons learnt from this year's AFCON tournament
1. Ivory Coast have finally ditched their chokers tag
After losing in the 2006 and 2012 finals (and limited displays at the past three World Cups), Ivory Coast had been accused of lacking mettle.
But anyone who saw how they responded to adversity in Sunday's final: converting five penalties when a miss at any stage would have lost the cup - may reconsider.
Ghana did little wrong in the final but this was a fully-deserved success for the Elephants, who have finally won again despite the departure of several members of their "golden generation" -
including Didier Drogba, Didier Zokora, and Emmanuel Eboue.
Many of the old guard were on the field in Bata - with Kolo Toure,
Tiake Siene and goalkeeper-turned hero Boubacar Barr all
appearing at a seventh Nations Cup.
The parallels with their sole previous success, in 1992, were uncanny. As on Sunday, the Ivorians played Ghana, the game ended 0-0, there was a marathon shoot-out (22 on Sunday, 24 in
1992) and the goalkeeper was the hero (in 1992, Alain Gouamene
was also at a seventh Nations Cup).

2. You can organise a Nations Cup in just two months
The Confederation of African Football (Caf) had spent nearly
three years preparing for a 2015 Nations Cup in Morocco when the
North Africans effectively pulled the plug in November over fears
Ebola would spread to the country.
That left little over two months to find a new host. With few
forthcoming because of continuing Ebola concerns, Caf asked
Equatorial Guinea, who had co-hosted in 2012, to step in.
They duly obliged and despite widespread doubts - especially once
the condition of the new venues Ebebiyin and Mongomo first came
to light - somehow managed to pull it off.
There were some problems, with teams lamenting the poor accommodation - some hotels flooded, others with dangerous wiring - but by and large, Equatorial Guinea turned the finals into an improbable success.
Hicham El Amrani, general secretary of Caf, called the
turnaround "miraculous - nothing short of that".

3. Using a helicopter to clear a stadium does not work
Surprised?
Thursday's semi-final between hosts Equatorial Guinea and
Ghana, at the Estadio de Malabo, was marred by violence from the
home fans. Ghana supporters were attacked with various missiles
and had to shelter on the pitch.
One of the crowd control ideas in particular left a great deal to be
desired.
A helicopter was flown just 10 metres above fans, but failed to
disperse them. In fact, they simply whooped and cheered.
But what prompted the violence? Although the local enthusiasm for
beer is considerable, the anger seemed to stem from the genuine
belief that Equatorial Guinea really were going to win the
competition - and once this narrative didn't pan out, the ugly
recriminations began.

4. You can change your coach and squad at the last minute.
Nothing about Equatorial Guinea's run to the semi-finals made any sense.
A little over two weeks before the finals, they changed their coach
- bringing in Argentina's Esteban Becker, who promptly altered a
third of the squad.
Some of his new charges had not played a match for six months
prior to the first week of January, but he rallied the band of lower division footballers to make the semi-finals at only their second Nations Cup.
Referee Rajindraparsah Seechurn's decision to award the hosts the most contentious of stoppage time penalties kept Equatorial Guinea in the competition, but brought accusations of cheating
from the Tunisians.

5. Christian Atsu should be playing more at Everton
The Ghanaian winger, who scored one of the goals of the
tournament in the quarter-final victory over Guinea, was named
Player of the Tournament after a series of bright displays.
His performances belied his failure to make an impact at Everton,
where he is on loan from parent club Chelsea.
Ivory Coast's Gervinho knows what it is like to underwhelm in the
Premier League but he was a joy to watch, constantly zooming past
players as he relentlessly drove forward when in possession.
There were several big performances from his colleagues: Kolo Toure marshalling an inexperienced defence superbly, Serey Die
excellent in his defensive midfield role, Max Gradel also shining before fading in the final.
Perhaps the most unexpected performance though came from
Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper Felipe Ovono, who was a beacon of
unflappable calm throughout his team's surprise run - despite
being only 21.

REV OSEI KOFI REACTS to KOTOKO AND HEARTS POOR RUN OF FORM

Ex blackstar and kotoko coach Rev Osei kofi  has ADVISED the 2 most successful clubs in Ghana Asante kotoko and Hearts of oak to boycott this year's African Club competition due to their pitiable run of form this season. Both teams have accounted 4 wins in 14 games together with each side winning 2 a piece.
Asante kotoko and Hearts of oak loss their last round of matches 2:1 to AshantiGold and 1:2 to New Edubiase respectively.
It is Very Sad to see 2 of African football powerhouses struggling to win games in their domestic leagues with African champions league and Confederations cup at stake.
Kotoko has won the Ghanaian premier league for a record of 21 titles and winning  3 trophies for the past 3 years.
Ghana represented 4 clubs in last year's African Club competition. Surprisingly all 4 clubs were eliminated in the first round of matches.
Rev Osei kofi asked both clubs, Asante kotoko and Hearts of oak who will be representing the country to bow out of the competition concerning their abissmal run of form since the season started.
   Kotoko face Lions of
Sierra Leone as Hearts play AS Police of
Benin.

Ghana journalists ask USELESS questions, Sports minister

Today on Adom FM,the Minister of Sports was aired to fully explain the budget made for the just ended AFCON held in Equatorial Guinea.
The popular morning show hosted by Captain Smart which aims at dissecting matters, mostly Political ones today interviewed Mr. Ayariga the minister of sports on the budget he made to the parliament earlier this week.
Mr Minister throughout the interview sounded a little furious by the intelligent questions being asked by the host. Questions like "how and what constituted the huge amount of money Ghana spent on the just ended tournament alone?" An amount of over US $17M was allocated to the soccer fest alone. Player bonuses, feeding, travel allowances, team managers bonuses, some supporters and some other petty stuffs was all what Mr Minister claimed the budget covered. This sounds very surprising to many Ghanaians if they reflect to what happened in BRAZIL. Obviously Ghanaians expected this budget to be a lesser budget to that of the controversial Brazil 2015 that brought total SHAME.
Honourable Minister throughout the interview was fuming at the host on why he isn't asking him questions about the blackstars remarkable performance though the interview had not ended.
Capt. Smart as he is affectionately called answered with much respect that..."I am yet to end this conversation. I will definitely get to the performance of the team".
Someway somehow, Mr Ayariga found this answer intimidating. He repeatedly told the host to be asking him REASONABLE questions instead of the BUDGET.
After reacting in this rude way, he labelled other colleagues of the host as they ask USELESS and UNREASONABLE questions. Of course the host intervened to stop Mr Minister from using such vulgar words. Seconds after the two heated up, Mr Ayariga obscenely signed out and ended the the interview in such a manner.
Before the start of the AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS ( AFCON ), the Minister told the blackstar team to leave everything concerning the budget to him.
Now we all know how ready he was indeed to face anything about the budget.
From the look of things,it Looks like the honourable minister is trying to bulldoze his way through!
